Egypt Postage Due Stamp

Egypt · 1884 · 1 Piastre

This is the first postage due stamp issued by Egypt. The design is purely typographic, featuring the denomination '1 PIASTRE' prominently in the center within an ornate rectangular frame. The corners contain numerals '1', and text in Arabic script appears at the top and bottom.

Issued under the Khedivate of Egypt, which was an autonomous tributary state of the Ottoman Empire, these stamps were used to collect payment for insufficient postage from the recipient of a letter.
