Denmark's First Christmas Seal, 1904

Denmark · 1904 ·

The seal features a portrait of Queen Louise of Denmark surrounded by a wreath of roses, with the text 'JULEN 1904' (Christmas 1904) and 'GLÆDELIG JUL' (Merry Christmas).

This is the world's first Christmas Seal, an initiative by Danish postal clerk Einar Holbøll to raise money for children with tuberculosis. It started a global tradition of selling charity seals during the holiday season.
