Bavarian Political Police Meter Stamp, 1936
Germany · 1936 · 12 Pfennig
A red meter stamp on an envelope, featuring the circular text 'Bayerische Politische Polizei' and 'MÜNCHEN' with the date '16.1.36' and denomination '12 PF' in the center.
This meter stamp was used by the Bavarian Political Police, a precursor to the Gestapo, in 1936. Its use on mail from the Dachau concentration camp's Kommandantur provides a glimpse into the early administrative functions of the Nazi regime's repressive apparatus.
