Prussia 1 Silbergroschen Imprinted Stamp

Prussia · 1862 · 1 Sgr

The stamp features a central numeral '1' within an oval frame, flanked by 'EIN' on either side, with 'PREUSSEN' at the top and 'SILBER GROSCHEN' at the bottom. It is an imprinted stamp on a fragment of a pre-stamped envelope, cancelled at Danzig.

This stamp represents the postal system of the Kingdom of Prussia, a major German state prior to the German Empire's formation. Imprinted stamps on postal stationery were a common method for prepaying postage in the mid-19th century.
