Hradčany Castle, 500h
Czechoslovakia · 1918 · 500 h
This stamp features a view of Hradčany, the Prague Castle complex, a prominent symbol of Czech statehood. The design, created by renowned artist Alphonse Mucha, showcases the St. Vitus Cathedral and other historical buildings from across the Vltava River. It was part of the first series of stamps issued by the newly formed Czechoslovak Republic.
Issued in December 1918, this stamp was among the very first postage stamps of Czechoslovakia, released just weeks after the country declared its independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire at the end of World War I.
