Prague Castle (Hradčany)
Czechoslovakia · 1918 · 5 h
This stamp features a stylized view of Hradčany, the Prague Castle complex, as seen from the Petřín hill. The design, created by renowned artist Alphonse Mucha, includes linden leaf branches, a national symbol, framing the central vignette. It was part of the first definitive series issued by the newly formed nation of Czechoslovakia.
Issued in December 1918, this was the very first postage stamp of Czechoslovakia, marking its independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire after World War I.
