Postage Due Stamp, 50h on 500h Newspaper Stamp Surcharge

Czechoslovakia · 1927 · 50h on 500h

This is a rare postage due stamp created by applying a 'DOPLATIT 50' surcharge in black ink over a 1925 500h newspaper stamp. The underlying stamp features a stylized falcon, a national symbol. The surcharge repurposed the existing newspaper stamps for postage due purposes.

Issued in 1927, this surcharge was applied to only one sheet of 100 stamps, making it one of the greatest rarities of Czechoslovakian philately. Its scarcity is due to this extremely limited printing.
