Cyprus Queen Victoria Definitive

Cyprus · 1881 · ½ Piastre

This definitive stamp features a left-facing profile of Queen Victoria, based on the contemporary British design. The portrait is framed by an ornate design with the country name 'CYPRUS' at the top and the denomination 'HALF PIASTRE' at the bottom.

This was the first postage stamp issued specifically for Cyprus under British administration, which began in 1878. It overprinted a contemporary British stamp with the word 'CYPRUS'.
