Cyprus 1937 Coronation of King George VI
Cyprus · 1937 · 3/4 Piastre, 1 1/2 Piastres, 2 1/2 Piastres
This commemorative set features three stamps issued by Cyprus, then a British Crown Colony, to mark the coronation of King George VI. The design, common to many British colonies, portrays a dual portrait of King George VI and his consort, Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother), set within an ornate frame. The country name 'CYPRUS' is inscribed at the top, with the denomination at the bottom.
Issued on May 12, 1937, this omnibus series was released across the British Empire to celebrate the coronation of King George VI, who ascended the throne following the abdication of his brother, Edward VIII.
