This stamp features the allegorical figure of Helvetia, the female personification of Switzerland, seated with a spear and shield. The design, known as 'Seated Helvetia' or 'Sitzende Helvetia', is framed by an ornate border with the denomination '10' in the corners and 'FRANCO' at the bottom.

Issued as part of Switzerland's first perforated definitive series, this design replaced the earlier imperforate 'Strubel' issues and remained in use for two decades, symbolizing a period of national unity and stability.
