Canada 1951 Centenary of Canadian Postage Stamps
Canada · 1951 · 4c, 5c, 7c, 15c
This set of four stamps commemorates the 100th anniversary of the first Canadian postage stamps. The designs feature historical postal themes: the 4c shows a modern mail train and steamship alongside an early wood-burning locomotive and the S.S. Royal William; the 5c depicts a post rider from 1851; the 7c shows a mail plane over a map of Canada; and the 15c features portraits of Queen Victoria, King George VI, and a reproduction of the 1851 3d 'Beaver' stamp.
Issued in 1951, this set celebrates a century of Canadian postal independence, which began when the Province of Canada took control of its postal system from the British General Post Office.
