This set of four stamps marks the first issue from the United Nations Postal Administration's New York office. The designs feature the United Nations emblem, the 'Peoples of the World' sculpture, the UN headquarters building in New York City, and the flag of the United Nations in the 'wind of peace'. These stamps were valid for postage only on mail sent from UN Headquarters.
Issued on United Nations Day, October 24, 1951, this set inaugurated the UN's independent postal service, a symbol of its international status and mission for global peace and cooperation.
