Canada Semi-Official Airmail Stamp

Canada · 1924 · 25c

This semi-official airmail stamp features a Curtiss JN-4 'Jenny' biplane in flight over a forested landscape. Issued by the Laurentide Air Service, it was used to prepay airmail fees for flights between Haileybury, Ontario, and Rouyn, Quebec.

In the 1920s, before the government established a national airmail system, private airline companies issued their own stamps to cover the cost of carrying mail by air, marking a pioneering era in Canadian aviation.
