Canada Admiral Issue, 3c Carmine, King George V
Canada · 1912 · 3c
This stamp features a left-facing portrait of King George V, who reigned from 1910 to 1936. The design is framed by maple leaves, a national symbol of Canada, with the denomination '3' in the lower corners and 'CENTS' at the bottom. This definitive issue, known as the 'Admiral' series, was in use for over a decade.
The Admiral series was the first definitive stamp series issued during the reign of King George V. The 3-cent value was initially intended for the Universal Postal Union international letter rate, but a rate change before its issue made the 2-cent value the primary domestic letter rate stamp.
