This stamp, part of the 1898 Christmas issue, features a map of the world with the British Empire highlighted in red. It was the first stamp ever issued to depict a map and celebrated the implementation of the Imperial Penny Postage rate. The stamp is affixed to an advertising cover for 'The Frost & Wood Co. Limited' of Smith's Falls, Ontario.
Issued at the height of the British Empire, this stamp celebrated a new standardized postal rate intended to strengthen ties between Britain and its colonies and dominions.
