Brazil "Bull's Eye" Inclinados
Brazil · 1844 · 30 réis
This stamp, known as the "Inclinados" or Slanted Numerals, features the denomination "30" in a slanted script set within an oval frame. The design is simple, focusing on the numeral against a background of fine engine-turned engraving, a security feature to prevent forgery. This series followed the famous "Bull's Eye" stamps and continued the practice of issuing stamps without the country's name.
Issued under the Empire of Brazil, this series was the second postage stamp issue in the Americas. These stamps were a continuation of the innovative numeral-only designs pioneered by Brazil, which were intended to be used across the vast empire.
