This is the first postage stamp issued by Brazil, known as the 'Olho de Boi' or 'Bull's Eye'. Issued on August 1, 1843, the Bull's Eyes were the first stamps issued in the Americas and the second in the world, following Great Britain's Penny Black. Their issuance marked a significant step in postal reform for the Empire of Brazil.
