This stamp was issued for use in German-occupied Belgium during World War I. The design features a large numeral '3' for the denomination, framed by oak leaves, with the inscription 'BELGIEN' at the top. It is part of the first series issued by the German occupying forces, overprinting existing German Germania stamps was not yet the practice.

Issued by the German military administration in 1916, these stamps replaced Belgian stamps and were valid in the occupied territories. They represent a key period of Belgian history under foreign military rule during the Great War.
