Bangladesh · 1971 · 10p, 20p, 50p, 1R, 2R, 3R, 5R, 10R
This set of eight stamps was the first issue of the provisional government of Bangladesh, released during the Liberation War. The designs include a map of the new country, the Dacca University massacre, the national flag, and a portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. They were designed by Biman Mullick and printed in London to raise international awareness and funds for the independence movement.
Issued on July 29, 1971, these stamps served as a declaration of sovereignty and a crucial propaganda tool for the nascent state of Bangladesh during its nine-month war for independence from Pakistan.
