Bosnia and Herzegovina Coat of Arms, Black on Yellow Paper

Bosnia and Herzegovina · 1879 · 1 kr

This is the first postage stamp issued for Bosnia and Herzegovina under Austro-Hungarian administration. The design features the provincial coat of arms, a shield with an armored arm holding a sword, set within a double circle. The denomination '1' is in the top corners and the currency 'KR' (Kreuzer) is in the bottom corners.

Issued following the 1878 Congress of Berlin, which placed the Ottoman provinces of Bosnia and Herzegovina under the administration of Austria-Hungary. This stamp marks the beginning of the Austro-Hungarian postal system in the region.
