Bosnia and Herzegovina 1879 1 Kreuzer Coat of Arms
Bosnia and Herzegovina · 1879 · 1 Kreuzer
This is the first postage stamp issued for Bosnia and Herzegovina under Austro-Hungarian administration. The design features the provincial coat of arms, a shield with an armored arm holding a sword, set within a double-headed eagle motif characteristic of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The denomination '1' is displayed in the lower corners.
Issued following the 1878 Congress of Berlin, which placed the Ottoman provinces of Bosnia and Herzegovina under the administration of Austria-Hungary, this stamp marks the beginning of the Austro-Hungarian postal system in the region.
