Australian States Postage Stamps (1850-1913)
Australian States · 1850 ·
This listing represents the various postage stamps issued by the individual Australian colonies before the formation of the Commonwealth of Australia. These colonies, including New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, and Tasmania, each produced their own unique stamps starting from the mid-19th century.
Prior to the Federation of Australia in 1901, each of the six self-governing British colonies operated its own postal system. The first stamps were issued by New South Wales in 1850, with other colonies following suit over the next decade.
