This stamp features a right-facing portrait of King George V, the reigning monarch of the British Empire at the time. The design is framed by a kangaroo on the left and an emu on the right, with a crown above the portrait and the denomination 'ONE PENNY' at the bottom. This was the first definitive stamp issued by the newly formed Commonwealth of Australia.

Issued in 1913, this stamp replaced the earlier Kangaroo and Map series and marked a shift towards featuring the British monarch, a common practice across the Empire's postal administrations.
