Christmas Island 1958 Definitive Issue, Queen Elizabeth II

Christmas Island · 1958 · 2c

This definitive stamp features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, based on the Dorothy Wilding photograph. The design is simple and elegant, with the Queen's effigy facing right, framed by the country name 'CHRISTMAS ISLAND' at the top and the denomination '2c' at the bottom. This was the first stamp issued by Christmas Island under its new administration.

Issued on October 15, 1958, this stamp marked the transfer of Christmas Island's administration from Singapore to the Commonwealth of Australia. It was the inaugural postage stamp for the newly established postal service of the territory.
