Austrian Levant Stamps on Preveza Cover
Austrian Levant · 1870 · 5 soldi, 10 soldi
The stamps depict the imperial double-headed eagle coat of arms of the Austrian Empire, with 'K. K. POST' at the top and the denomination at the bottom. The cover shows these stamps cancelled with a circular 'PREVESA' postmark.
These stamps were used by the Austrian Post Offices in the Ottoman Empire, reflecting Austria's economic and political influence in the region during the 19th century. The Preveza post office was one of several such foreign post offices operating in the Levant.
