Trucial States First Definitive Issue
Trucial States · 1961 · 5 naye paise to 10 rupees
This definitive series was the first postage issue for the Trucial States, a British protectorate. The designs feature local themes such as a map of the states, a conch shell, a camel, a dhow, a falcon, a gazelle, and an oil derrick, reflecting the region's culture and burgeoning economy. The stamps were printed by De La Rue in London.
Issued on January 7, 1961, these stamps were valid in Dubai and other Trucial States except Abu Dhabi. This issue marks a key step in the postal independence of the region which would later form the United Arab Emirates in 1971.
